When did you first become involved with Out Doors and how did it come about?

Well I first became involved in Out Doors about ten years ago. It came about through recommendations from my GP and my mental health nurse. They encouraged me to go along, though it took me a while as I was a bit hesitant and anxious at first, but it worked out really well for me, it was exactly what I was after.

What is your favourite thing to do at Out Doors?

My favourite thing to do at Out Doors is white water rafting, particularly on the Mitchell River. I have also done the Mitta Mitta River but I prefer the Mitchell because I seem to enjoy packing up each day and setting up tents in the evening, the camp in camp out adventure. I like a more of a complete break from the norm!

Have you had previous experience in white water rafting?

No previous experience. Dave Weeks saw me early on in my Out Doors journey, he suggested if I would be up for some white water rafting. I found it extremely exhilarating, a bit of a challenge, but I enjoyed the challenge, I don’t mind getting a bit wet.

Have you always enjoyed being in nature, where did your love of nature and the great outdoors come from?

I always liked camping and used to go rabbit shooting, but I don’t shoot animals with guns anymore. But yeah, I’ve always had a liking to walking in nature and do quite a bit of it.

What do you do when you’re having your own mental health challenges?

There are two things, I’ll try to distract my mind. I’ll go for a walk or go for a gym session in my shed. I also like to watch a good movie as well, anything to clear my mind.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

I am very happy here, there are places I would like to visit like New Zealand and Tasmania where I think I’d really enjoy, but in terms of living I am very content here.

What is your favourite movie?

Shawshank Redemption definitely.

What is your favourite meal?

At the moment it’s chilli concan.
